VCH Oxfordshire: Staff Profiles
The Oxfordshire VCH currently comprises a full-time County Editor and four part-time research staff. The County Editor and two of the other research staff are funded by Oxfordshire County Council as part of its Heritage Services; of the other two staff, one is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and the other by the Oxfordshire VCH Trust.

Simon Townley
(County
Editor): joined the
Oxfordshire VCH as an Assistant Editor in 1987, having completed a
doctoral thesis on secular clergy and their recruitment in the West
Midlands during the 13th century; became County Editor in 1996.
Contributions to the Oxfordshire VCH include histories of Bampton,
Northmoor, Standlake, and Stanton Harcourt, together with recently
published histories of Witney and surrounding villages. Currently
working on Henley-on-Thames. Edited the county history journal Oxoniensia

Dr Robert Peberdy (Assistant Editor): joined the Oxfordshire VCH on a half-time basis in 1996, having written a PhD thesis on medieval Henley-on-Thames, and has also published on aspects of Thames navigation during the medieval period. Dr Mark Page (Assistant Editor): joined the Oxfordshire VCH in August 2005, working 4 days a week. Previously worked as a Research Fellow on the Winchester Pipe Rolls Project run by Hampshire Record Office and Durham University, for which he edited two of the medieval Pipe Rolls, and on the University of Leicester's Whittlewood Project, an intensive study of settlement, society, and economy in Whittlewood Forest (publication forthcoming). Dr Antonia Catchpole (Team Researcher, EPE Burford Project): joined the Oxfordshire VCH on a part-time basis in September 2005, to work on the Burford and Henley projects funded by the HLF as part of 'England's Past for Everyone'. Recently completed a PhD on The Small Towns of Medieval Gloucestershire at Birmingham University, and previously worked for Gloucestershire County Council Archaeology Service as Project Officer on the Historic Towns Survey, with English Heritage funding.
